On the economy

It looks like the economy is growing again. However, it appears economic growth is doing what it always does after a recession: it is growing due to efficiency and lean-ness of operations. And not on the value of its productions.

In other words, we're still producing crap but just much faster because we fired the slowest workers.

But feat not. Ford has introduced the seat belt airbag. Finally, an American innovation. Not since the Snuggie has America produced something of real value.

And today, I received a coupon from Tourneau that says I can save $500 if I buy a watch. Only $500? Last year they sent out a coupon whereby I could save $1,500 but that was at the height of the recession. Now that times are better, $500 is the size of a proper incentive whereby last year, it required a $1,500 incentive to buy a watch. Jeans sales are rising. Jeans are a luxury item in that people have one pair of their favorites and all others are superfluous pairs.

If you're going to buy stocks. I suggest buying stock in companies that will produce components for the SmartGrid. If there is one thing that will fuel American innovation again, it is the SmartGrid. We better do it first before the Chinese beat us to it.

In other news, optometry school is kicking my ass. I really need to get back into school mode but haven't been able to. I'm still stuck with a bunch of Legos and eBay is so time consuming. I hope to have a GPA of 3.0 for the first quarter. Oh well, Schopenhauer said that you should start every morning by swallowing a frog to ensure that the rest of the day will only get better. I'm starting optometry school with a low point to ensure it only gets better.

In a class of 31 male students, I'm the only one who wears the English spread collar during the photo day. Everyone wears the American point collar. If you include all four classes, there are 112 male students. And I am the only one who still wears the English spread collar. And yes, you guessed it. I wear the English spread collar exclusively.

on music...

http://www.pajiba.com/music/fun-aim-ignite-review.php

Fun.'s album Aim and Ignite is a brilliant album (yes, there's a period in their name). The entire album is great. Horns, strings, harpsichords, guitars, keyboards are all included. The arrangements are brilliant, the tempo changes keep things new and fresh and there are few choruses that give the sense that you're listening to a song in the typical song format. The songs sound like stories. I've been listening to it nonstop and haven't been able to get sleep because the songs stick in my head.

Oh, and I won the SCCO class of 2013 first poker tournament. Hopefully, I win the next one. Good times.

I learn something new everyday. Today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unobtainium

I read an article about VW's new 1 Liter concept and they used that term. Thought it was a real element.

Today I went to the South Coast Plaza Mall. That place is a monster of a mall. I had to buy a pair of sunglasses since southern california is so sunny all the time and there are so many parking garages that you must enter that the transition from bright to dark can cause really bad accommodation and can be very dangerous. Every time I enter a poorly lit parking garage after driving in the sun, all I see is complete darkness.

I bought a pair of sunglasses by Paul Smith. I watched a documentary about Paul Smith and his philosophy. Great designer, but a bit kooky. I got the PS-438 in Tuscany Tortoise.

When I left, I noticed a big ugly SUV parked really close to me. And my fears were justified. A HUGE ding on my car corresponded to the rear right door. I sat there thinking about keying the SUV. But I decided not to. Anyways, my car is already in bad shape so what's one more ding?

On brothers...

I had to borrow my little brother's SUV to take all my stuff down to Fullerton for optometry school. In a fortnight, another brother would take my car to Fullerton and switch with me while he also takes the SUV to Riverside to empty his home (to be foreclosed since this brother is rather irresponsible). Whenever I borrow something, I make sure I don't abuse it. I didn't eat in his car, didn't drink in it, and it is practically the same car when I got it. I received my car today. It has a dried jalapeno stuck to the back seat carpet along with catsup, a huge catsup-like stain on the passenger's seat, it's missing the sunshades that shades the car from sun, and there appears to be spilled soda everywhere.

WTF?

Oh, and while I was here in Fullerton, I made three trips to Riverside to take furniture back to my apartment and help empty the to-be-foreclosed home. I don't think I'll be helping my brothers for a long time to come.

This is like the last time someone borrowed my car. I've been fooled twice.
